Gena Smith became the Director of Disability Services at UNC Charlotte in September 2014. She began working in the disability services field as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor with the Bureau of Services for the Visually Impaired in Ohio. She became the Program Director for the Office of Disability Services at Winthrop University in 1997. She has worked in higher education in the disability services field for nearly 24 years. She holds an M.Ed. in Counseling and Development from Winthrop and a B.A. in English from Furman University.

Nicole has a B.S. in Business Administration from Winthrop University and an M.S. in Accountancy from the University of South Carolina. Prior to joining UNC Charlotte, Nicole worked in public accounting and as a staff accountant for Carolinas Healthcare System. Originally from West Columbia, SC, Nicole has lived in Charlotte since 2007.
