Accommodation-Testing
Based on their documentation some students with disabilities are entitled to testing accommodations. Students must be registered with Disability Services and checked in for the semester in order to receive testing accommodations. The type of testing accommodation, which is specified in the student’s Letter of Accommodation, may impact the location where the student can test. If questions arise about testing accommodations, please contact a staff member in the Disability Services Office.
Faculty can facilitate accommodations by providing additional testing time immediately before or after the test and/or providing a secluded area in the classroom/ department for the student. The amount of additional time or need for low distraction is specified on the student’s Letter of Accommodation.
Students with disabilities who require accommodations may test in the Disability Services Office. A student who tests in Disability Services is responsible for providing faculty with a Request for Test Administration in the Office of Disability Services form. The faculty member completes the form, indicating the materials allowed during testing, the exam date/time, and the method of test delivery.
The Disability Services Office has limited testing areas and once they are full, the office is unable to provide additional space. Priority is given to student’s requiring assistive technology available only within the office.
The Office of Disability Services strongly encourages faculty to send exams via email as attachments: disability@uncc.edu
If emailed, the test file is deleted after the student has finished taking the exam. Faculty can drop off tests after hours using the locked drop box by the back door of Disability Services. Tests are secured in a locked file cabinet in the Disability Services Office until administered and returned to faculty upon completion.
Students testing in the DS office are closely monitored by surveillance cameras in the testing rooms during the exam
